Steve Van der Horst

Connells Point, New South Whales

"I am a freelance illustrator with 20 years experience. Previous to that I worked in the art departments of a variety of design and advertizing firms. I worked exclusively with traditional media and had no intention of switching to computers as business was brisk and work was abundant ... so why bother. Then my accountant said I was paying too much tax and I needed to find ways to reduce this. What about a new car? I didn't need one! What about a computer? I didn't need one of those either, but I thought it might be good for accounts and the kids might like to play the games. So I bought one ... stupid me! Consequently, I haven't used a paint brush or air-brush since and I had to buy computers for my kids as they couldn't get near mine! I now use the latest G4 Macs and about eighteen programs (at last count) to produce illustrations for design, advertising, architectural, web, promotion and packaging clients. form•Z is the 3D program that features in most of my work. There is so much in this program that I have yet to discover it all and utilise it in my work. I am enjoying exploring the creative possibilities."
