form·Z 4.0: Menus

General:

Many of the menus have been reorganized, as summarized in more detail below. Also, menus that had distinct items for modeling and drafting now appear as separate menus, one for modeling and one for drafting. This has resulted from the new modular structure of form·Z and the fact that drafting is now a completely separate module.

The File menu:

This menu has been reorganized to support the distinction between native and non-native formats, introduced by v. 4.0. While native files are now handled by the Open..., Save, and Save As... commands, the non-native files are handled by the Import... and Export items.

The Save QuickTime VR... item has been moved from the File menu to the Display menu, where it now appears as Generate QuickTime VR....

The Edit menu:

This menu has remained as in previous versions, except that the Undo* command now includes changes made to views and cameras, a Redo List can now be invoked from the Redo* item, the Select By: Modeling and Preferences dialogs have been adjusted, the Hide Ghosted item has been removed and is now included in the Wire Frame Options dialog.

A new item, Plugins And Scripts... has been introduced that is used to control which plugins and scripts will be enabled.

The Windows menu:

This menu has remained as in previous versions, except for the introduction of a new item, Align And Scale Frames.

The View menu:

This menu has been extended to incorporate four commands that were previously available in the cone of vision menu, which has been discontinued. These commands are: Clip Hither/Yon, Reset Hither/Yon, Reset View Angle, and Reset View Spin.

The Display menu:

This menu has been reorganized to better distinguish between interactive display types and rendering, and has been extended to incorporate two new items that support network rendering: Network Render... and Network Render Status.... Also, one of its previously available items, Redraw Buffers... , has been moved into the Wire Frame Options dialog, and another item, QuickDraw 3D, is no longer supported.

The Options menu:

This menu has remained as in previous versions, except that three items, Input Options..., Pick Options..., and Zoom Options..., have been removed as redundant.

The Palettes menu:

This menu has been reorganized into two main groups. One contains the standard floating palettes; the other palettes that also exist as dialogs. Three new palettes have been added to the latter group, namely, Display Options..., Pick Options..., Snap Options..., and Window Options....

Export/Import:

The Modeling Export Options dialog has been reorganized to better handle the types of objects available in form·Z, namely, plain and parametric, facetted and smooth.

A new plotter oriented format, HPGL (Hewlett Packard Graphics Language), has been introduced.

The BMP image format that was previously only available on Windows is now also supported on the Macintosh.

The formats supported by QuickTime now appear in the Export menu directly, rather than as a sub-option of the QuickTime image format.
